Meet the Cast & Crew: Tawnie Thompson (Aisha)

Tawnie P. Thompson
Tawnie Thompson

In each post, we will introduce you to the cast and crew of The New World Horror. Tawnie plays Aisha in The New World Horror, and recently played Megan in another indie horror film, Don’t Go To The Reunion.

Aisha was born in a Sunni Muslim family.  Her father was a poet and school owner, running a chain of schools in Pakistan.   Aisha’s father would educate her at home.  Aisha begged her father to be enrolled in the local school, even though the Taliban forbids girls to be in school.   Aisha didn’t care…she wanted to go, and she did finally convince her father to let her go to school.  Suddenly, her father’s schools started becoming a Taliban target and one school, although empty at the time, was bombed.  His father was furious and scared.  When Aisha was 15, three members of the Taliban approached her at the bus stop.  They shot her in the head and the neck.   She remembers seeing Daniel taking care of her on the street, but it all seemed like a dream. Eventually, she woke up in a hospital in London and the first person she saw, even before her father, was Daniel.  She knew then that he saved her life.   He later asked her to marry her and Aisha immediately said yes.   They stayed in England and Daniel finished up his degree at Cambridge.  The couple moved to the United States, and Aisha went to school at  UW Madison to study nursing while Daniel worked as a biology professor. Aisha also enjoys helping Daniel at his lab at the university, until the New World Horror….

Meet the Cast & Crew: Joe Price (Billy)

Joe Price
Joe Price

Joe Price is a man of multiple talents: artist, musician, and actor. He portrays Billy in the film.

Billy grew up in the south, in a town notorious for its poverty and racism. Even though his parents received unemployment benefits for years, they felt that the government was giving too many handouts to the poor, but they really meant minorities. His parents had no problem instilling this belief (and hatred) to Billy.  At a young age Billy’s parents brought him to a pro-life rally where they made him carry a big poster with a picture of a dead fetus. Billy didn’t question the message, he just marched around with his sign and shouted at the women entering abortion clinics. Billy is now 30 and still lives with his family. The three support each other, and pool their money together every month for the cable subscription and cartons of Newports. Billy now listens to conservative radio all day at the gas station where he works and in his car. He has more extreme views than his parents,  reads Tea Party blogs, and listens to Alex Jones. Billy went to the recent rally at the capitol with his family. The bus from church helped bring them to the rally…and yes, they brought their bloody fetus posters to the rally. Until The New World Horror….

Meet the Cast & Crew: Steve Golla (Cooper)

Steve Golla
Steve Golla

In each post, we will introduce you to the cast and crew of The New World Horror. Steve Golla plays our union man, Cooper. You may have also seen Steve on an episode of Showtime’s show Shameless.

Cooper was born in Kaukauna, WI.  His dad worked at paper mill as a supervisor and his mother worked in the same mill part-time doing clerical work.  Cooper’s dad called their family a “proud union family,” and Cooper gladly went to work in the paper mill  after high school.  Cooper loved working there and was soon promoted. Only a year into Cooper’s job as a supervisor, he heard of rumors that the mill was purchased by Cain Industries.  Walter Cain came to the mill to state his appreciation for everyone’s hard work and said they would not be shutting the factory down.  The next day, 90% of the employees at the factory got layoff letters with a two week severance pay. They were informed that they had to train their replacements. Cooper was devastated and fell into a deep depression drinking heavily and began verbally abusing his wife.  As far as he is concerned, Walter Cain is responsible for his dramatic downturn.  Cooper is still bitter about losing his job, and doesn’t know what to do. Until The New World Horror….

Meet the Cast & Crew: Jennifer Grundy (Suzie)

Jennifer Grundy
Jennifer Grundy

In each post, we will introduce you to the cast and crew of The New World Horror. Jennifer Grundy plays Suzie, who soon finds herself consumed by the evil virus. Jennifer starred in many Milwaukee and NYC productions, and most recently she portrayed Mrs. Trotsky in Variations on the Death of Trotsky at the InterAct Arts Festival in Milwaukee.

Suzie was born and raised in northern Minnesota.  Suzie was a quiet child that had no friends growing up.  She met her husband Frank at a church function where she learned he was a recent widower. They married, and Suzie soon got pregnant with their only child, Annie.  Suzie quit her job and happily assumed her role of homemaker and mother to Annie. The family lived an average suburban life.  Well, perhaps not so average. Both Frank and Suzie believed that the end was coming soon, as there was just so much sin in the world.  The joined extremist church after extremist church, but still couldn’t find a denomination that aligned with their beliefs. At the surface, they are a fun, laughing couple, but deep down, their hatred nearly consumes them.  Despite her appearance as a smiling housewife, deep down, Suzie is seriously fucked up.
